Gr Noida to have direct road link with Delhi

UP govt plans road link between Gr Noida, Delhi

16 Feb 16 2011,  New Delhi:

The Uttar Pradesh government is drawing up a plan for a direct road link between Greater Noida and Delhi, in the backdrop of the second international airport proposed for NCR. While the Group of Ministers, headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram, is yet to give its go-ahead for the airport plan, the UP government is considering a 45-km road connecting Jewar and Delhi.

“The green signal for the new international airport is still awaited (but) we are planning ahead. The cities will be linked by the Yamuna Expressway, which has been on the anvil for some time, but a need was felt to develop a quick access for Delhiites on the lines of the quick links created for the Delhi airport,” said M Ramachandran, former Secretary Urban Development Ministry and the infrastructure advisor to the Uttar Pradesh government.

According to Ramachandran, 10,000 hectares of land has already been blocked by in Jewar.

“We are expecting the airport to take three to five years to develop. The Delhi airport has a Metro link, but this may not be entirely feasible. There is a proposal, however, to extend the Metro — which currently runs from Delhi to Sector-15 in Noida — to Greater Noida. We will link this line to the new airport,” he added.
